一天，儿子回到家乡去探望父亲。对于父亲，他很孝敬。那时，儿子买了许多东西给父亲，全部都是崭新实用的家庭用品。父亲看了后十分惊讶。心想，要说的话，现在是时候了。父亲给儿子出了一道考题。

父亲不快不慢地说：“一个家庭主妇，去买东西。她一共带了两百元去市场购物。首先，她买了猪肉3斤，每斤12元；然后，她到菜摊上买了2斤菜，用了4元。”

儿子不以为然，认为这么简单的题目不应该来靠他的。

父亲继续说：“她还买了4斤的番茄，用了8元；买了6斤的土豆；买了3元的丝瓜。因为买了太多东西，她到商场雇了一名售货员，让售货员把她刚买的东西先送回家，用了30元。”

儿子自认自己的心算能力强，嘴角挂着微笑，十分自信。

父亲拿着本子看了一眼，又加快速度念道：“于是家庭主妇有到了家具中心，买了2张凳子，每张30元；到某商场的化妆品区买了一盒50元的化妆品，有买了一个3块的玩具给他的儿子。”

儿子翘起二郎腿，显得有些不耐烦，他问：“您是要问我这个妇女一共用了多少钱吗？她一共用了200元。”儿子有些得意，心想父亲定会夸奖他。

岂料父亲严肃地答道：“不是。我想问的是‘这位妇女一共买了多少样东西？’”

儿子顿时呆住了，他意想不到父亲竟然会出这样的考题。他只知道自己一只在心算妇女用了多少钱，而没有在意她买了多少种东西。

父亲知道儿子肯定答不出来，可他不愤怒，只是一脸平静地对儿子说：“儿呀，你靠自己的力量换成你今天的成就，那是好的。但人的一生不是钱的奴隶，不要计算着自己失去和得到多少，钱财是身外物！当你老了，你就会发觉自己总想多活几年，发现年轻时攒下的钱财顿时就如一堆粪土，换不到自己的年轻，延不长自己活在世上的时间。”

儿子若有所思地低下头，一脸严肃。

父亲继续道：“钱财并不重要，重要的是在人生的道路中，你买了多少种东西，从这些东西上得到什么，付出了什么？这样不断反省自己，才会总结出自己买东西时是否比平时超支了等其它问题。还有，不要因太注重金钱而失去做人的真谛，去挖掘事物的每一个细节，体验细节中的喜怒哀乐。”

儿子没想到，文化不高的父亲竟一口气给自己讲了这么多的道理。其实，生活在复杂的社会中，生活的阅历就是文化。
